lately it feels like time is flying by so i sat down last night and wrote out a list of goals for 2012. here's hoping that putting it down in writing helps me accomplish everything.

+focus all savings on finishing our house.

+expand my business to include home goods.

it has been hard to find time to blog lately, but i am a lot more active on instagram. here are a few recent photos. above a trip to the farmers market and turning it into curried squash soup + homemade sesame bread

a couple of ceramic pieces i have finished lately. a teacup and a hanging pot for our bathroom. i have started working on some ceramic jewelry which i hope to share soon. a couple more pieces here.

lately i like to button my shirts all the way up and another awesome trade with julia.

a little mancha love and the beginning of my first weaving on a loom. i started taking a weaving class a few weeks ago and so far i love it. we are making a sampler of patterns, but i can't wait to be able to work on my own ideas. you can find me on instagram @doreshandmade

catskill mountains part 1...after hanging out with friends in nyc for a couple of days, we rented a car and all headed up to the catskill mountains for our good friends wedding. a bunch of us took over the mountain brook inn and turned it into a bit of a hippie commune. this might be one of my favorite places i have ever stayed. the owner, gary, has just about the best hospitality i have experienced. he personally delivered homemade corn and berry muffins and fresh fruit in a basket every morning. being out in nature and away from technology was just what i needed. the first day my sister-in-law and i went exploring in the super cute town of andes while our husbands were off practicing with the band for the wedding. i decided not to lug my camera around, but here are a few instagram pics...1, 2, 3, 4.

last weekend we went camping with 10 adults and 7 kids. i knew we wouldn't get much alone time so i packed a picnic for us on the way there. homemade falafel sandwiches, fresh berries, and sweet mango soda. i think august is my favorite time of summer.

celebrating 1 year of owning our lovely house. we ate dinner on the porch surrounded by lots of fire flies and reminisced about all the hard work we have put into the house in the last year to make it our home. when we were looking for houses, i found it to be a pretty stressful process and always wondered if people were exaggerating when they said you will just know when it is the right house. we must have looked at the inside of our house for only ten minutes before walking outside, sitting down on the porch and then it totally happened, i knew it was our house. it was always my dream to have a big front porch for people to gather and hang out on just like when i was a kid. i was so happy recently when our good friends came to visit and all ten of us were eating dinner on the porch and laughing the night away.

this summer i am trying to spend as much time as possible in the ceramics studio. we have class once a week, but also have unlimited access to the studio to practice in between. i love hanging out there for hours getting so inspired by working around other people. i am hoping to make lots of pots for all my house plants. i can't wait to get to glazing, i am thinking fluorescent yellows and blues.

i also wanted to say thank you so much to everyone who bought something from the shop update. i keep trying to restock stuff that sells out in hopes of keeping the shop open for a little while. i only had a limited quantity of my favorite piece, the mumbai necklace, but i am hoping to try my hand at making some ceramic beads as well this summer. i feel so inspired now that it is finally warm and sunny!

i turned 28 last week. my new glasses arrived and i am happy to look a little older. i misspoke in my last post, they are from kala eyewear, but i can't seem to find a website for them. so far i love them and i was happy to see they are handmade in the u.s. it was raining on my actual birthday, but we had a big bbq and bon fire party over the weekend. i wore my favorite knit tank from annie and made myself a new necklace. the collection i am working on is inspired by my travels in india so lots of color and lots of gold. i finally found this 14k gold filled chain that has a more yellow look like a lot of the jewelry i saw in india. i am hoping to get the collection photographed this weekend if this nice weather stays around.

new ceramics around my studio...a bowl i recently got as a house warming gift (it has such a cool story) and some new beads i plan to make into a necklace. i am just about to start a ceramics class with my brother-in-law and i am so excited at all the possibilities. this story about clam lab over on the makers project is pretty inspiring.

it has really started to feel like spring around our house despite the rainy weather outside (click on the photos for more details). i can't believe how long it has been since my last post, but i had to take a little break from blogging to catch up on a few things like taxes and unexpected home repairs. we were all set to finish the home renovations, but ended up having to do a bunch of additional plumbing work in the bathroom. that lead to us having to cut a huge hole in the wall of what was about to be my studio. we finally got it all patched up and repainted the room a nice white. i found this rug a while back that turned out to be perfect for the space so now i just need to find a new desk. it feels so amazing to finally have a room all to myself. i am excited to get working on more regular shop updates and blogging more often.

It is so soft and comfortable and the perfect length for wearing with high-waisted jeans. a peak at our renovated first floor...a few before shots here. today we have been living here six months and i am so excited to finally start making it feel like a home. we don't have much furniture so it is going to take a while to fill up all this space. my goal is to only bring in pieces we love and try to keep things minimal and clutter free. one of the best new additions so far has been the record player my mom gave us for christmas along with a box of records from her amazing collection. we always had music playing in our house when i was growing up and i plan to continue that tradition with our family.

india part 3...from goa we flew to cochin, met up with our driver and did the most amazing six day tour around kerala with my husband's family. some highlights...waking up in the mountains, touring spice gardens and tea plantations, eating way too many banana chips, staying on a house boat, cruising alongside rice paddies, more sunshine and ocean swimming, beautiful sunsets and the tastiest organic vegetarian dinner . a few more photos and details on flickr.

india part 2...after mumbai, we flew down to goa in the south to visit our cousins and celebrate our anniversary. we stayed in vagator beach which was the quintessential laid-back hippie town. we didn't do much but sit by the pool in the morning, walk to the beach around noon and hang out with everyone, drinking beers until sunset. the ocean was so amazing and warm. the only downside was the cows that would come up and steal half your lunch, but i found them pretty entertaining. we also went to the most amazing night market that was built into these hills so it seemed to go on forever. it happens every saturday night and has this really cool mix of local artists and young people who have moved there from all over the world, selling their handmade clothes, jewelry, shoes, etc. we were only there for three days, but i could have stayed much longer.

india part 1...the first five days we were in mumbai and stayed in bandra, the neighborhood where my sister in law's family lives. we did some sight seeing in mumbai proper the first day, but spent the rest of the time exploring bandra. some highlights...three nights of wedding events (i will have to do a separate post on this), warm sunshine, having indian curry for continental breakfast, shopping at anokhi for the most amazing hand-printed textiles, extra large masala dosas at elco, sitting at cafes, crazy rickshaw rides all over the city, walking around different markets, celebrating our third wedding anniversary and ringing in the new year with lots of friends at a roof top dinner. a few more details on flickr...

we had a great time on our trip, but i am so happy to be home after being gone for two and a half weeks. i use to think that was such a short time to travel, but now that i have a puppy and a home it seems so different. i am still trying to get my days and nights back in order and had to go buy a new computer yesterday (long and painful story), but i am so excited to share more photos real soon. hope you all had a happy new year!

some last minute packing and then we are off to india! we are going for my husband's twin brothers wedding in mumbai (it's pretty crazy, they are actually getting married on the same day as us) and then we will be traveling south to goa and kerala. we couldn't be more ready for a vacation after spending the last few weeks working non-stop on the house (literally until midnight last night). we had to get the first floor done so that our friend could refinish the wood floors while we are gone. so you can expect some good home reveals in the new year along with lots of travel photos!

thanks so much to everyone who came out to art v. craft and renegade the last two weekends! i made this special new packaging for the fairs and was so excited to have professional business cards printed for the first time. the ever so lovely anabela of fieldguided was kind enough to let me use her beautiful beach print as part of the design. we just did a little trade and she sent me the print along with one of her sweet totes. it has been perfect for carrying packages on my walk over to the post office.

35 woven bracelets off to this lovely store in zurich. i know it has been a while since i had a jewelry update, but i am so busy getting ready for both art vs. craft here in milwaukee and the renegade craft fair in chicago. for now i have decided to stock the shop with the cast brass necklaces and the woven bracelets since they are always the most requested. i love giving them as gifts so i was thinking they would be perfect for the holiday season. i am hoping to add a couple more pieces over the next few weeks.

400+ hours of labor and over 20 trips to home depot, we finally finished remodeling our second story. you can see some before shots here. we never intended this to be such a big job, but it all started when we ripped up the lovely pink carpet to refinish the wood floors. it turned out they were old attic floors that couldn't be refinished so we had to install new wood floors instead. this is when things got interesting since we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. since the floors ran underneath the walls and we didn't have a subfloor, we had to carefully cut out the old ones and build in new supports underneath all the walls. our friend helped us install and refinish the new wood floors and then we spent countless hours removing wallpaper, digging out cracks, spackling, sanding, caulking and painting. the upstairs is going to be our bedroom and guest bedroom so we decided to keep it light and painted everything white. a lot of people thought i was crazy for wanting to do it all white, but i love how it turned out. i am so excited to finally be at the point of moving in and decorating!

tea collection contacted me a couple of weeks ago to put together an outfit for their blogger stylist project and i couldn't resist having some fun with their adorable kids clothes. i got to choose a couple of favorites from the shop (lace dress and the denim cuffed pant) and found the rest secondhand. my friends daughter mara stopped by the other day to model and we went on a little walk through the park...

tea collection was started in 2002 by two talented women who were inspired by "the little citizens of the world." the clothes celebrate the beauty found in cultures around the world and are so well-made with the sweetest details. you can check out more at tea collection or at their cute blog.

new around here...small vintage coach bag from the thrift store, rustic kitchen table from the flea market and this awesome antique rug. i have been trying to buy mostly secondhand stuff for the house so i was beyond excited to snag this rug for $35. it was part of a sellers display at an antique mall, but they were willing to contact them and it turned out they didn't mind selling it for cheap. we are sticking to a pretty neutral color palette with the walls and furniture so i love finding colorful accents.

this weekend i am excited to start working on our dining room since it is probably my favorite room in the house! we are on a pretty tight budget so i am totally inspired by ashley's beautiful space and her new home blog devoted to affordable finds. so far we have purchased the new light and i am hoping to do some flea market shopping the next two weekends for an old farm table. hope you all have a great weekend!

i was never really a cat person before today, but now i am officially converted. this is jack, he is only 6 weeks old and weighs less than a pound. i watched him for my cousin today who is a vet and recently got a litter of farm cats dropped off at work. they are keeping this little guy, but there is another redhead that i want to adopt so badly! unfortunately i don't think i can convince my husband that getting a kitten while renovating our entire house (with a puppy) is a good idea. he even played so good with mancha all day.

i decided to have a shop update this thursday night before i pack everything up to renovate my studio space and start working on some new things for fall. this time of year always makes me want to change things up and i really want to give the blog/shop a new look. the shop update will include all the old favorites plus a couple of new ones. i will post a preview in the shop tomorrow night.

over the weekend...mancha turned 6 months old, i scored a brand new pair of denim keds at the thrift store, we had our first overnight guests and we continued tearing apart our house. i am beyond tired and sore, but we are beginning to see what this space will become...

i can't believe how fast these last couple of weeks have been going. between moving, starting home renovations and trying to get orders shipped, i am feeling a little crazy (and really tired!). at the same time, i am so excited to work on the new house that i can't seem to slow down. i am on the hunt for home decor inspiration...know of any good sources or blogs?
