when we stayed with our friends in portland, there was this beautiful quilt on the bed that her great-grandmother stitched completely by hand. i have made free-hand baby quilts before, but seeing this quilt finally inspired me to make a big one. i am slowly collecting vintage pieces of fabric and will hopefully have enough by the time winter comes and i am ready to be in the house all the time. until then it is fun to see all the pieces piling up on my desk.
