i have been taking a little break from the internet the last couple of days in an effort to slow down and enjoy summer. i went shopping for new sandals, started reading the omnivore's dilemma and picked fresh boysenberries from the tree in our backyard. i always try to eat seasonally and locally so it doesn't get any better than this!

  7. Boysenberries, yum. I love freshly gathered berries, they're more delicious than store-bought somehow.

  12. I also thought those were mulberries from a tree. Those remind me of growing up in Wisconsin. Boysenberries grow on canes like raspberries.

  13. I think they must be mulberries. I've never actually seen them, but I really want to try them. Apparently, though, you pretty much have to grow your own, since they're so crazy fragile that it's not really worth it for farmers to try and ship them anywhere. Nutso!
